11:52 am - It’s an “X” world after all
|
I guess $122.9 million debut of X-Men: The Last Stand buys some authority in Hollywood, in the form of spin offs. I just hope someone has the guts to give Joss Whedon the helm to some X movies! These new movies have a lot of potential, I hope they don’t blow it like they did with X3. A slam dunk would be Hugh Jackman's Wolverine spin off. “His character has an as-yet-unrevealed back story in which researchers replaced his original bones with a metal skeleton. Jackman has signed on to star and co-produce, and X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner says it will likely head into production next year.
We've also talked about doing something on the kids in (Professor X's) school, focusing on their lives, and less of a global adventure for the team," says Hutch Parker, production president of 20th Century Fox.
The studio is also exploring a movie with Three Kings director David O. Russell based on the character of Emma Frost, a sexy mutant telepath who can transform her skin into diamonds. She is an X-Men comics regular but was not featured in the movies.
Another likely solo project: Magneto, also in the script phase. The film will focus on his youthful pre-villain days, Shuler Donner says.
Though it would require a younger actor for those sequences, she says the film would need Ian McKellen to anchor the flashbacks. "What's a Magneto movie without Ian?" she asks.”
Sweet!

“In marriage man is the head of the marriage (humanly speaking). What is meant by head is not that he is the boss or the bully or the king. But that he is the servant who adores his wife and children and is willing to give himself away for their well being….Headship is widely misunderstood. What it means is, ‘I take responsibility for my wife and children. And if something should happen, even if it is not my fault, it is my responsibility.’ ” -Mark Driscoll

11:50 am - The Cult of Oprah…
|
“Oprah seems to be a contradiction perfectly suited for a confused world of pluralism. She is a billionaire who speaks passionately about the pain and suffering in the world from the comforts of her sheltered life. She is among the most beloved icons of mothers yet she has never had any children. Many viewers tune in to learn how to improve their marriages yet she has never been married. And, she speaks of spiritual matters often and has an entire segment of her show titled "spirit," which makes you wonder which spirit she’s referring to.” – Mark Driscoll
USA today had a very interesting (disturbing) article on America’s new “spirtual leader”

2:14 pm - An American Haunting
|
I saw "An American Haunting" last night. It was really bad...don't waste your money. I've been interested in the real life events behind the story for a few years. The Bell Witch is fairly famous legend through this area of the country and even more so further south around Nashville. But this movie changed the story and was just poorly written.
Read more about the real legend here: http://www.bellwitch.org/story.htm

1:37 pm - joss whedon stole my life...
|
It was innocent enough with just being curious about Firefly...but that was the first mistake. It wasn't long before I was watching as much as I could and finished it all. The the crash of not having any more of my fix. Oh but then the high of Serenity that let me to seek out more. Then I hit the really hard stuff...the uber addctive stuff...the stuff that has sucked away 80% of my free time and has changed the way I speak and relate to the world around me. Yes, I discoverd the life changing joy that is Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The single greatest show that has ever graced the TV air waves. Thank God for DVD!
There is only one problem. I'm on season 6 of seven of Buffy and season 2 of 5 of Angel and I know it will all come to and end and then what will I do? I can't think about that now. I can just enjoy what time I have left with Buffy, Spike, the Scooby Gang, Angel, and the rest.
So I guess I missed my calling as a fan boy nerd...but I LOVE it....Buffy good!

3:44 am - I'm thinkin' about my door bell...when ya gonna ring it?
|
I can feel the fog of self focus starting to lift.
How good does one person have to have it before he starts to act like he cares...too damn long.
My love is just a few short hours from ringing my doorbell!
"You're *not* friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood...blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it." -Spike (BTVS "Lovers Walk" S3)

6:41 pm - lazy sunday
|
I'm spending the whole day alone contemplating life, purging destructive thoughts, soaking in the beauty that is the music of the decemberists, skipping church to meet with God, escaping the roommates, reading, and soaking in the wonder that is life...
---thank you Andrea for the use of your condo!

5:43 pm - GK Chesterton quotes
|
how relevant to our own times....
"Men are ruled, at this minute by the clock, by liars who refuse them news, and by fools who cannot govern." - The New Name, Utopia of Usurers and Other Essays, 1917
"It is the mark of our whole modern history that the masses are kept quiet with a fight. They are kept quiet by the fight because it is a sham-fight; thus most of us know by this time that the Party System has been popular only in the sense that a football match is popular." - A Short History of England. 156
* "I have formed a very clear conception of patriotism. I have generally found it thrust into the foreground by some fellow who has something to hide in the background. I have seen a great deal of patriotism; and I have generally found it the last refuge of the scoundrel." - The Judgement of Dr. Johnson, Act III
"The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected." - ILN, 4/19/24

5:41 pm - who am I?
|
|
I am a man of various interests and passions, some temporal and some eternal. I adore the deep things of art, beauty, philosophy, theology, and of God…yet most of the time I find my thoughts and actions never escaping beyond the bounds of my own skin. I’m not yet home and struggle on this sojourn to my ultimate destination. Along this journey I have sparks of brilliance, moments of holiness, times of lucidity, periods of perversion, eras of obstinance, and ages curious wonder. Be assured that if you stick around long enough I will infuriate you a time or two.
